The East Bay Vintner’s Alliance (EBVA) is a collection of nineteen innovative, urban wineries spanning from Alameda to North Berkeley, and producing some of the highest quality wine in the world. Founded in 2007 and headquartered in Oakland, CA, the EBVA prides itself in being the “the cutting edge pioneers of modern age winemaking,” sourcing fruit from Oregon to Southern California, and as far away as the Rhone Valley in France. The EBVA uses both cutting-edge and traditional methods to create destination-worthy wines in an undiscovered, urban wine country.

“Because we are not tied to land, we have the freedom to experiment with appellations and varietals; to really let the grapes speak for themselves.” says owner of Urban Legend Cellars and EBVA member, Steve Shaffer.

Nineteen wineries and eight tasting rooms make up the body of the EBVA producing over a hundred diverse award wining wines including Whites, Rose's, Reds, Ports and fruit desert wines, using varietals from Barbera to Zinfandel, including, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Syrah, and Pinot Noir among others.

The Alliance's April “Passport to the East Bay” opens members' winery doors, many for this one special day, to pour their wares and showcase local cuisine pairings; highlighting the quality of their wine for locals and visitors alike.

August brings “UWX – The Urban Wine Experience” to Jack London Square. Member wineries pair with East Bay restaurants and Oakland estuary views to create a perfect afternoon of wine and cuisine.

The EBVA is a group of urban winemakers who are not only consumer conscious, keeping the price point of many of their wines extremely competitive, but also environmentally responsible. Their mission is to create awareness of their group as the best, local source for purchasing wine in the East Bay, much like a local farmer at a farmer’s market, and also to create national awareness and excitement about this new, growing trend and chapter in urban winemaking.

The East Bay Vintners Alliance (EBVA) is a nonprofit mutual benefit corporation organized under the California Nonprofit Mutual Benefit Corporation Law. The purpose of the EBVA is to promote increased awareness and the betterment of business practices among member wineries, and to increase awareness of wineries located in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay viticultural area.

Members are corporations which produce wine in Alameda, Albany, Berkeley, El Cerrito, Emeryville, Kensington, Oakland, Piedmont, or Richmond
